Netiquette
I have an Advanced English class, and as a class we have created a blog. My teacher came up with an interesting topic which was Netiquette. I never really thought about Netiquette until last week when this was brought up. Now I feel strongly about it, because one of my class mates brought up the fact that teenagers wouldn’t listen which brought up some of my own issues. You may be thinking, why is she talking about this at this point in time? I wanted to tell you my thoughts on Netiquette and then get your opinions.
My opinion on Netiquette is that it is very important. This is because the Internet has became a cruel place, but the Internet is also a huge part of society and I believe that it will only become more of an influence on the world as time goes on. Some people may not understand why people pick on people that they don’t even know on the Internet. I felt like this but I had an epiphany while blogging about it, the reason that people pick on others through the Internet is because they feel a sense of security doing it. This is because they may never meet the person and also they think that it gives them more power over people and that many people on the Internet don’t have feelings. The truth is that behind the monitor of these cyber bully’s, is someone that is insecure and that their mentality probably isn’t that high. They will develop a tolerance to what they are dishing out, so they will feel the need to pick on others even more, kind of how drug addicts develop a tolerance for different drugs. Another topic that was brought up on the class blog was whether or not Netiquette should be taught in schools. I believe it should because even if most students don’t listen and do it anyways, there is always that one student that the lecture or class has an effect on. Also that one student may be willing to stand up for him/herself now because they learned that it is just some weak person behind a monitor.
